3 Rivers Defense SPEAR Self-defense ® and Be Your Own Bodyguard ® Training
Before shifting her focus to self-defense, Brigitte Schulze Martínez, owner of 3 Rivers Defense, trained for decades in martial arts, including Taekwon-do with Grand Master Hong Sik Kim and Chung-do Kwan Karate with Grand Master Jung Sae Park. She trained, competed, and instructed, and loved sparring and breaking boards.
She also trained in the Israeli self-defense system of Krav Maga and in various other close quarter combat systems.
In 2009, Brigitte shifted her focus and recalibrated her training to concentrate on reality-based as well as trauma-informed self-defense.
Based on her years of researching and training in self-defense across the country, Brigitte found that Tony Blauer’s SPEAR self-defense ® system, the Be Your Own Bodyguard ® training and Evidence Based Scenario Training was most closely aligned with her mission of providing holistic, reality-based self-defense. The SPEAR ® self-defense system is solidly based on physiology, kinesiology, and psychology. It includes all phases of self-protection: avoidance, de-escalation, and physical defense/counter-offense.
Brigitte is therefore proud to be an authorized affiliate of the Blauer SPEAR system ®.
Brigitte is certified by Blauer Tactical Systems, Inc. as
SPEAR ® Self-defense Trainer,
Evidence Based Scenario Trainer, and
Brigitte feels privileged to train on a regular basis with Coach Tony Blauer and the worldwide SPEAR ® trainer community.
Brigitte's SPEAR ® self-defense and Be Your Own Bodyguard ® courses are trauma-informed, realistic, and research-based. The training uses your body’s natural, genetically wired reactions to threats, enabling you to convert your instinctive reactions to protective and tactical movements.
We just completed our fall Be Your Own Bodyguard ® courses in Bozeman, Montana. Check back for our winter 2024/2025 offerings.
"Your ability to protect yourself or a loved one is
inarguably the single most important skill you can possess."
-Coach Tony Blauer
Coach Blauer’s focus, his mission and path, has not wavered since he began teaching real-world self-defense in 1979. He has been on the cutting-edge of reality-based training for the self-defense world ever since.
Coach Blauer’s goal has always been to make the world safer.
Starting with you.
The ability to protect yourself or a loved one is the single greatest skill you could possess.
What if learning how to protect yourself was much easier than you thought? That was the inspiration Coach Blauer had over thirty years ago. He noticed that no one really used technical martial arts in real confrontations.
WHEN YOU TRAIN WITH US YOU WILL LEARN:
● How to reconnect with your intuition and instincts.
● How to recognize a fear spike and how to listen to its signals and, most importantly, how to manage fear.
● Simple, functional movements based on how real people move.
TRAINING IN THE SPEAR SYSTEM WILL TEACH ANYONE:
● How to reconnect to the human weapon system.
● That 80% of confrontations could have been avoided.
● The Three D’s: How to detect danger, how to defuse and de-escalate and, if push comes to shove, to defend.
● A simple and practical system that’s congruent with your emotional psychological state during a confrontation.
The SPEAR System can be used by anyone looking for a simple and effective system of self-protection.
The Blauer SPEAR System’s approach to self-defense will reawaken your situational awareness and teach you a patented approach to identifying and managing fear; the program includes an effective verbal de-escalation system and the most raw and direct approach to personal defense using natural biomechanics.
LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SPEAR SYSTEM
Blauer Tactical Systems’ research on the startle/flinch phenomena and its link to the survival system’s withdrawal reflex has spawned one of the most important evolutions in close quarter training: the SPEAR System, which utilizes the speed and reliability of the startle/flinch mechanism to convert the sudden attack into a tactical counter.
The SPEAR System is considered the world’s first and only behaviorally-based close-quarter self-defense system. It is based on science, psychology, and human biomechanics. It uses hard-wired reflexes to enhance personal defense by improving anyone’s ability to detect, intercept, and defend against a sudden close quarter ambush.
The SPEAR System is not a martial art nor does it replace other martial art systems.
SPEAR is the study of human movement as it relates to violence, fear, and aggression.
